Drum majors in the United States Armed Forces do not necessarily need to be proficient drummers, but they must possess a solid understanding of music and be capable of instructing various elements of drill and ceremony. The role of a drum major is typically assigned to senior-level Non-Commissioned Officers (NCOs) who hold the rank of staff sergeant or higher. These individuals are responsible for leading and coordinating musical elements during military parades and ceremonies, contributing to the overall precision and excellence of military formations.
